How shall I prepare the surface before AERO-THERM® application?

The surface must be mature, cohesive, degreased, and free of dust and other impurities. Any possible cracks must be repaired and bumps flattened.

Can I make AERO-THERM®´s properties more efficient by adding another layer?

A 1 millimeter layer of Aero-Therm is optimal for creating a better thermal comfort and lowering energy cost of a building. Places with significant thermal bridges can be treated with a thicker layer of AERO-THERM(2-3mm). It eliminates moisture condensation as well.

How much saving can one expect when using AERO-THERM®?

It all depends on the scope of application, weather, and premise conditions.  The standard is applying AERO-THERM on home interior of attic ceilings and peripheral walls, which brings you to an average of 25 % cost savings in winter season.

Applying AERO-THERM to subfloors which contain a heating element as well as the interior of attic ceilings and peripheral walls can net you an average of 35% cost savings.

This is based on ILAC European testing facilities and actual field installations mostly in Europe from which the following energy savings are reasonable to assume.

Entire savings depend on the time of year and how the heating system is being used, however, based on our experience the saving can range anywhere from 12.5% and can rise up to 60% and higher.

A building installed with AERO-THERM, takes 25% less time to heat and retains the heat longer.  AERO-THERM dramatically increases the value of computer directed heating systems like Nest Intelligent Thermostat or other sophisticated heating control systems.

An AERO-THERM building, has reduced thermal conductivity, as well as eliminates thermal bridges.  An AERO-THERM building feels warmer, and its perimeter walls are warmer to the touch!

Does using AERO-THERM® on interiors have any affect during the summer months cooling costs?

Due to the fact that AERO-THERM is blocking exterior heat from getting through the walls where applied, on interior installations during the summer months there is a minimal but marked difference in the interior temperature.  The difference is that the rooms are actually a few degrees cooler.  Summer months energy savings are modest, but overall, rooms installed with AERO-THERM perform better at all times of the year!

Is there an AERO-THERM® specifically designed for hot temperate/tropical climates?

Yes! With the exterior version of AERO-THERM!  AeroTherm Exterior is designed to naturally block exterior heat from entering the house or building when applied correctly to the exterior surface.  AeroTherm Exterior provides excellent solar reflectance, and reduces the building’s thermal conductivity due to the 3M glass microspheres and AeroGel, which are both excellent insulators.

Where can I apply AERO-THERM®?

You can use AERO-THERM for treating flat or sloping ceilings. Next, you can apply it to a surface of internal walls and walls adjoining staircases, basements, hallways, garages, and other not well heated spaces.

You can also use it as a functional layer of a floor formation in heated and not heated floors (AERO-THERM floor).

Is it O.K. to apply AERO-THERM® on a damp surface?

Watch out for the source of moisture! If the source is some constructional defect, than the AERO-THERM layer won´t work properly. If moisture is caused by water condensation , than AERO-THERM is the solution. However, it is important to point out the fact that long-lasting high humidity (over 65%) leads satiety of AERO-THERM, which decreases the efficiency.

Polymerization period of AERO-THERM extends due to the damp foundation. It is neccessary to be aware of it when applying the top coating layer.

What kind of final paint is the best to use on top of AERO-THERM®?

Use permeable paint with high opacity and a higher number of repainting (thin layer paint ). You can also use wallpaper, ceramic tiles on top of AERO-THERM. The efficiency won´t be changed by it.

What is a thermal comfort?

Thermal comfort is the quality of your surrounding, where you neither sweat nor you feel cold. It is influenced by air temperature, temperature of surrounding areas and objects, relative air humidity, and airflow speed. It also depends on actual activity, clothing, and physical condition. However, perception of comfort is individual.

How does AERO-THERM contribute to thermal comfort?

AERO-THERM reduces time needed for achieving thermal comfort ( thermal comfort is achieved when the air temperature is 2-3°C lower), and extends thermal stability of an object and so the time thermal comfort lasts. Rooms with AERO-THERM have their temperature equally spread out and the walls do not give off cold, but feel pleasant to touch.
